Class Descriptions

"Students will receive a 10% discount on items purchased for and during classes."

CLASS Policy: Thank you for your interest in our classes at Parsons Sewing Connections. We Reserve the right to cancel a class if the minimum number of participants is not met.If this happens, we will fully refund the cost of the class to you. If you are unable to attend a class you registered for, you must notify us within seven days of the class and we will issue a store credit to you. If you cancel within those seven days we will issue you a store credit only if your reserved space can be filled from our waiting list. If you have purchased a custom kit from us for your class that kit is yours to keep and we cannot refund you for that kit. Our instructors plan out their class lessons carefully but sometimes you may not finish your project in class. Your instructors may provide information for you to finish your projects at home. We also schedule Open Sew days for a fee if you need a space to finish your project or continue a new project.

Sewing Classes

Sewing 101

This class is for the beginner who wants to learn about how a sewing machine works while creating several projects. This class is intended to be a stepping stone for future classes at Parsons whether you aspire to be a quilter or crafter or garment sewer - 4 simple projects will be sewn in order to build confidence and understanding of sewing related terms (this is Not a kid’s class)
 
Sewing 102
With basic understanding of sewing you will be able to tackle some more challenging projects.  Emphasis on pattern layout, types of appropriate fabric for the project and improving your skills on the sewing
machine.
 
Open Sew  
We have set aside Friday  afternoons 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm for sewers interested in using our classroom.  
Tuesday mornings 10am -12pm Check the calender for dates

Quilting

Quilting 101

This class is designed to introduce basic quilting techniques along with the construction of a Log Cabin Table Topper, and Ohio Star Pillow,  The student will learn the proper use of the rotary cutter, mat and ruler, along with step-by-step guidance in making 2 projects that lend to an independent skill level and the confidence to go beyond beginning quilting! Fabric and notion purchases are required prior to class time. Sewing machines are provided during class time but it is recommended that you have a machine available to you at home as well.

This is a 4 week session class

 

Quilting 102

This class is design as a continuation of Beginning Quilting 101. You will make a Trip Around the World Lap Quilt. The student will learn the proper use of the rotary cutter, mat, and ruler, along with step-by-step guidance in making this quilt that will lend to an independent skill level and the confidence to go beyond beginning quilting! Fabric and notion purchases are required prior to class time. Sewing machines are provided during class time but it is recommended that you have a machine available to you at home as well.

This is a 3 week session 

BARGELLO TREE SKIRT

Put an exciting spin on the traditional Christmas tree skirt with the Bargello Christmas Tree Skirt pattern! Using June Tailor's Quilt As You Go pre-printed batting, this eye-catching tree skirt is so fun to make! Rotary cutting experience, pre-printed June Tailor batting,  and pattern purchase required.

This is a 2 week session 3 hour class 1:00-4:00 pm

OMBRE RIPPLE

Two values of 6 different colors make the dimensional rippling effect of this design with a dark fabric and a light fabric of each color to add plenty of variation. So simple to make, yet so impressive! The original fabric requirements are based on “OMBRE” fabric (which of course you can purchase) but my sample and the fabrics you choose may likely be a tone on tone or small print, not “ombre”!

Rotary cutting experience and pattern purchase required.

This is a 2 week session 3 hour class 1:00-4:00 pm

COME FLY WITH ME

Using the Creative Grids Quick Trim Ruler and pre-cut 2½" strips (or with purchased yardage), make this 16" X 42" quilt-as-you-go assembly table runner. This makes the perfect for the holidays OR the perfect addition to your own table! This is a two-session class that will include binding construction as well.  Rotary cutting experience and pattern/ruler purchase required. Pre-cutting at home is suggested.

This is a 1 week session 4 hour class 12:30-4:30 pm

 

EXPLODING HEART

Capture the feeling of your heart bursting with joy! Come join us for this highly popular quilt made with half-square triangles, hourglass blocks and quarter-square triangles.  The stanard pattern finishes 72' x 72"... but i've also miniaturized it in two other options as well.  Rotary cutting experience and pattern purchase required.

This is a 2 week session 3 hour class 1:00-4:00 pm

 

BOOMERANG

The quilt that you'll come back to make again and again! Gather a bundle of your favorite coordinating solids, basics or a small scale prints to spring into action! This quilt comes together quickly with no Y seams! Using Jaybirds Super Side-Kick Ruler, you'll love how quickly it this quilt comes together. Several size options available for this two session class. Rotary cutting experience and pattern/ruler purchase required.

Holiday Sampler
If you've gotten a good start in beginning quilting. this Holiday sampler is a great 'next project". In this 6 session skill building class you will cut, piece, layer, quilt, and bind. Finishing at 40.5" square. It can be used as a table runner, wall hanging or a couch throw. The required book is a great resource for beginners and provides options to make six additional quilts.
Participants need to be comfortable with their sewing machine and have basic beginning quilt experience including rotary cutting and ruler use. There will be work that needs to be done at home in between classes.  This is a 6 week session 2 hour class 10:00am -12:00 pm
 
 
HOLIDAY POT HOLDERS

In this popular three-hour skill-building class you will cut, piece, layer, quilt and bind so that you leave with a finished product.  It's designed as a potholder, but many choose to call it a mini-quilt!  Go home and use it yourself or make more to give as holiday gifts.  The required  book is a great block resource so that you can also make table runners and lots of quilts.

Participants need to be comfortable with their sewing machine and have basic beginning quilt experience including rotary cutting and ruler use. 

This is a 1week session 3 hour class 10:00am -1:00 pm

 

Long Arm Quilting
 
Your beautiful large quilt needs to be quilted, BUT it is too Big to stipple quilt on your home sewing machine or perhaps you want a themed quilting stitch like waves, feathers, sports etc. Well this long arm with computerized capabilities will let you choose the pattern you want or import one from another source or you can quilt in manually on the 12-foot frame.

Embroidery

Embroidery Workshops 
The goal with these classes is to learn new embroidery techniques that can be completed IN THE HOOP of your embroidery machine. Every month for 3 days we tackle a new themed Anita Goodesign project. if you want to take your embroidery to the next cutting edge level than these embroidery classes are for You. Seating is limited (6) as we let you use our Husqvarna/Viking, Pfaff and Brother top of the line machines.
 

Serger classes

Serger Club
This class is for the newbie to this type of sewing and finishing edges. A serger is a much more intricate machine that needs some explanation of its dials and functions. The threading can be daunting at first but after the course you will able to know how and why the 4 threads function to create a variety of stitch types. You will be amazed how versatile a serger is and a real necessary addition to your sewing studio. We will teach threading, explain the dos and don’ts when using a serger and explore the variety of stitch formations.
